Do I have to go to the work christmas party? It’s next Friday starting at 3pm and going into the evening (I work 9-6) and I just… do not want to go. I have too much on that weekend and no time for fake socialising. What’s the etiquette here. how do I politely get out of going without seeming like the grinch?

I have applied for so many jobs on seek, even had one interested. Is honestly beyond a joke. Finding gold in Ballarat would be easy than getting a job in Ballarat. The whole economy is stuffed by covid also no one willing to give you ago. Gotta go through 5 stages of interview just to get a job. It’s crazy that’s why so many people are on jobseeker and unemployed the government needs to do something. So disappointing job Employment agencies dont even help either. System failing be time.

Just a little holiday tea ☕ I joined a new company and on the invitation for our EOY party there’s a warning about how poor behaviour won’t be tolerated. I did some digging and found out that every year at least one person gets a warning for inappropriate behaviour and last year it was a quite well-liked manager! It’s wild to me how people can risk their whole career for some free drinks. Have you had anything similar happen at your company?

I need some advice about managing up. I just joined a new team and the manger is just so so hectic. I get updates/feedback from him on projects at the last minute, he's always busy and travels in different time zones so half the time isn't contactable or is late to respond to questions. The whole team is going crazy. How do I tactfully but effectively get him to communicate with us properly?

I'm feeling very unappreciated at work. I'm a senior developer - nearly 54 now - and my level of output is very high but I rarely get any recognition, whereas I see younger workers get promotions and lots of encouragement. I think it’d just be nice to feel seen or appreciated - should I say something or just forget about it? I think it would be almost impossible to get another job at my age - what would you do?

The front door is locked; use the side window. Stop blaming yourself for the rejection emails. You aren't fighting a person; you're fighting a keyword-matching robot. Most ads here are just "process" for roles already promised to someone else. How to win: - Stop being an "Applicant." Start being a "Solution." - Identify the Manager. Message them directly: "I saw X problem on your site, here is how I’d fix it." Make the interview a formality. Skip the queue.
