It’s honestly shocking how rough the job market in NZ has gotten. People are getting sacked left, right, and centre, and finding a decent job feels almost impossible. Makes you wonder- is the system stacked against regular people while big businesses keep getting away with it? Everyone’s struggling with joblessness, and it feels like no one’s actually doing anything to fix it.

Too right, it’s a joke out here. Big companies keep cutting jobs and raking it in, while regular folks are stuck fighting over scraps. Makes you wonder if the system’s actually set up to keep us down while the bosses do sweet as. Hard not to feel a bit done over, hey.

Been job searching for over 6 months now and its kinda abysmal how bad the job market is. Back in 2024 I had a mate fresh outta prison and he found him a job right away but in 2026 its nearly impossible to find work if any.

Nursery Worker
You have to remember the pressure the government puts on businesses and there are plenty of them shutting down due to the fact they can’t run successfully due to cost.
To be honest, you would want to make a decent profit if you were running a small to medium sized business.
It is 100% the government, power companies and property owners (who want to charge an over-the-top amount on rent/lease on property), that are to blame.
I would be scared to create a business in this day and age!

Its a competitive market so many applicants applying for one role u need to stand out. Don't send your same generic cv & cover letter, you have to personalise it to what the employer is seeking. If youve applied for 20 jobs and havent heard back from any, change your strategy.Use you tube on how to prepare for interviews, use AI to help you create your cv and cover letter. Keep your cv 1-2 pages max, bullet points, send an intro video, create a landing page of your bio etc, learn new skills,
