The National Key Account Manager (NKAM) – Abbott Nutrition is accountable for driving sustainable, ethical growth across New Zealand by leading strategic engagement with national and regional healthcare stakeholders across hospital, community, wholesalers and continuum-of-care nutrition settings. 

The role shapes and executes national account strategies that improve access to Abbott’s nutrition portfolio across acute care, aged care, primary care, and community channels. The NKAM operates as a trusted partner to senior decision-makers, influencing funding, policy, and pathway decisions while ensuring alignment with Abbott’s values, compliance standards, and long-term commitment to improving health outcomes through science-based nutrition.


Responsibilities
 

National strategy & Growth leadership

  • Develop and execute national and regional account strategies to drive growth of Abbott Nutrition across hospital and community channels. 

  • Identify opportunities to expand nutrition pathways across the continuum of care, including acute, post-acute, aged care, and community-based settings. 

  • Translate New Zealand healthcare priorities and population needs into strategic nutrition solutions aligned with Abbott’s portfolio. 

  • Lead strategic planning, forecasting, and investment decisions to deliver sustainable growth. 

  • Collaborating with AU-based Marketing, Finance and Supply-chain team to develop and implement NZ-specific strategies 


Senior stakeholder engagement

  • Build and maintain strong, senior-level relationships with key decision-makers including:  

  • Te Whatu Ora / Health New Zealand leadership 

  • NZ based wholesalers and distributors 

  • Hospital executives, dietetic leaders, procurement, and clinical governance groups 

  • Aged care providers, community health organisations, and professional associations 

  • Position Abbott as a long-term, values-driven partner committed to improving patient outcomes through nutrition. 

Strategic Negotiation & Commercial Excellence 

  • Lead  negotiations, including tenders, and long-term supply or partnership agreements. 

  • Contribute to commercial frameworks including pricing, value propositions, and contract structures within Abbott governance, and take lead on the implementation process 

  • Balance commercial performance with long-term relationship building and reputation management. 


Skills and attributes

  • 5+ years of senior national/key account experience in the food, health, or nutrition sectors; experience with special/nutrition-focused products is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated success in selling to large national accounts, multi-channel retailers, hospitals, and institutions within New Zealand.

  • Strong understanding of PHARMAC, and NZ regulatory environment for foods, dietary supplements, and medical nutrition (labeling, health claims, ingredient restrictions, and MPI/FSANZ guidelines).

  • Excellent negotiation, presentation, and relationship-management skills.

  • Willingness to travel across NZ as required (including occasional international travel if relevant). Regular travel will be required.
