What’s it like working at Sydney Tools?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees appreciate the supportive and collaborative team environment at Sydney Tools, with colleagues who are friendly and helpful. The fast-paced, dynamic nature of the business keeps work interesting, and there are clear opportunities for career growth and skill development. Many employees value the supportive management, product knowledge training, and the family business culture that encourages direct communication with senior leadership.

However, there are some potential challenges, including the 90-hour fortnightly rosters which can impact work/life balance, particularly for those with families. The fast-paced environment requires high adaptability as priorities can shift quickly. Some employees have noted that communication between head office and stores could be improved, and sales targets and workload can be demanding during busy periods. Additionally, facilities and resources in some store locations could benefit from upgrades.

Great opportunity for people who want to grow.
The good thingsI’ve really enjoyed my time with Sydney Tools and the opportunity to progress from Sales into Business Development, supporting customers across the Mid West region. The BDM role has given me the opportunity to get out into the market, build relationships, meet local businesses and take real ownership of developing a territory. More recently, the positive changes in leadership and culture at Ballarat have been fantastic to see. There’s renewed confidence in the team, people are stepping up and taking responsibility, and the overall environment feels positive and focused. The support I’ve received from Store, Area and Senior Management has been exceptional. Having leaders who listen, encourage ideas and genuinely want their people to succeed makes a huge difference. It’s a fast-paced business, but if you enjoy sales, relationships and creating opportunities, there’s plenty of room to make an impact. I’m excited about what we can build from here.
The challengesOne area I believe could be improved is the introduction of digital price tags across the stores. With such a large product range and regular pricing and promotional changes, electronic shelf labels could significantly reduce the time spent manually updating tickets while also improving pricing accuracy for customers. This would allow the team to spend more time where it matters most — engaging with customers, providing product knowledge and driving sales. It would also modernize the in-store experience and improve operational efficiency across the business.
HR SupportThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate hearing about your positive experience at Sydney Tools and are pleased to know you have enjoyed being part of our team.
