The good thingsEngaging with great students committed to learning and building skills. Facilitating practical learning. Colleagues were generally lovely but didn't have much contact with them due to both nature of the role and lack of cohesive workplace structure/culture. Grounds are decent, nice location. Gained a lot of professional experience and enjoyed receiving feedback from students (never got any from the workplace itself)
The challengesNot usually a bad review leaver but seeing the execs trying to boost MP's rating without addressing the issues staff are dealing with feels pretty fraudulent.
Being a young woman in the workplace and having an older male manager persistently refuse to provide information required to do my job, as well as sometimes giving incorrect information was extremely frustrating. Lost a significant amount of income due to wrong info given regarding class scheduling on multiple occasions. Unfortunately also experienced disrespectful behaviour and was gaslit about it.
Hourly rate is good but you end up doing hours well beyond the trainer/assessor role due to lack of resources and support, gatekeeping of information, poor communication and administrative error.

The challengesThe 5-star reviews you read below are from the management; they are trying to recruit. Years of my life were dedicated to this organisation, and I ultimately left with severe mental health issues. What I feel now is not bitterness, but relief and the clarity that only comes once you are out of a harmful environment. The behaviour towards staff is appalling and the treatment from management and those above is deplorable. Since leaving I am no longer am stressed out, I no longer cry before going to and when leaving work due to the emotional toll it takes on you, I no longer have a manager that blames you for every mistake and I no longer allow myself to be treated disrespectfully. When colleagues see what is happening and choose to stay silent, that silence allows the culture to continue. If you take a role at Melbourne Polytechnic and feel you are being mistreated, do not assume it is in your head or that you are overreacting. It took me years to realise the problem was not me.
