What’s it like working at Mainfreight?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees appreciate the family-like culture at Mainfreight, with traditions, celebrations, and a supportive team environment. The company offers career progression opportunities through internal promotion, along with yearly bonuses, perks such as free lunches and fresh fruit, and structured training at branch and national levels. Many employees highlight the helpful colleagues who contribute to a positive workplace.

However, there are some potential challenges, including concerns about management communication and accountability, understaffing during busy periods, and work/life balance with long shifts and rotating rosters. Some employees have mentioned that training and onboarding could be more comprehensive, and monthly pay cycles can be frustrating. Additionally, some feel that pay levels could be higher for the workload, though bonuses help offset this.

    NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE
The good thingsAll good to start with. Rapidly declined after a short period of time.
The challengesLots of favourtism in allocation of work. Really bad safety awareness. Poorly run by management.

The warehouse floor is a meat grinder ran by incompetence and contradictions.
The good thingsThe food available is rather decent for the price. No real summer if you work in the climate controlled half of the warehouse
The challengesMainfreight are proud to promote from within. Only anyone with worth leaves pretty quick leaving promotions to whoever is left.

12+ hour days, constant pressure, inexperienced leadership, and chronic understaffing.
The good thingsThe café and the new site look great at the moment, but unfortunately it will all be ruined in a few years.
The challengesGetting paid monthly is frustrating. Management continually increases workloads, with regular 12+ hour days and little accountability. A recent management change in Chem Couriers has highlighted serious gaps in experience the new manager, previously in sales, has no floor experience and offers little operational support. Ongoing understaffing and poor oversight raise genuine concerns around safety and sustainability. Mainfreight always talk about “culture” but don't follow their own beliefs.
