What’s it like working at Horizon Power?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees value the friendly and supportive culture at Horizon Power, with colleagues who are professional and committed to mutual success. The work/life balance is excellent, featuring flexible arrangements and work-from-home options. Staff appreciate the competitive benefits package and opportunities for career development, along with the chance to work on innovative renewable energy projects that serve regional Western Australian communities.

However, there are some potential challenges, including slow decision-making processes with inconsistent direction and frequent policy changes. The systems and processes can be fragmented in some areas, requiring workarounds. Some employees have raised concerns about workplace culture, particularly around communication and accountability. There can also be a disconnect between Perth and regional offices, and shifting strategic priorities during periods of organisational change.

Very challenging finance environment with limited structure, systems, support and direction.
The good thingsMy colleagues and other employees were generally professional, capable and good to work with.
The challengesExtremely disappointing, one of the most difficult professional environments in my career. The finance function operates across highly fragmented systems and processes, with no single, fully integrated accounting or reporting environment. Instead, there are numerous workarounds, separate SharePoint locations, Power BI reports and other disconnected sources of information. Obtaining the data is often impossible, it is not always clear where the correct or most current information is stored. There was no onboarding, handover or practical guidance. A major issue was inconsistent direction from management with contradictory instructions. This leaves employees caught between competing expectations and responsible for resolving disagreements or ambiguity that should ideally be addressed at management level. Requirements were also frequently unclear or changed as work progressed. There is no agreed approach between stakeholders. Significant turnover within Finance.

A Government trading enterprise fast becoming a Government Dept - with no desire to achieve anything
The good thingsThere is very little work to do so there is time for outside activities
The challengesWorkplace culture is toxic - nobody is allowed to speak up, there is no drive or passion.
