What’s it like working at Aruma?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees consistently highlight that working with participants and clients is the most rewarding aspect of their role at Aruma, describing them as amazing and wonderful. Staff appreciate the supportive team culture and strong friendships with dedicated colleagues. The availability of training and development opportunities, including subsidised courses, helps employees grow professionally. Many value the flexible working arrangements, including hybrid and remote work options.

However, there are some potential challenges, including concerns about management practices and communication gaps across regions. Frequent restructures can create uncertainty in the large organisation. Staff shortages and workload can be demanding, particularly when balancing administrative responsibilities with participant care. Additionally, documentation and compliance requirements can be time-consuming, and communication between organisational levels could be improved.

The best workplace turned worst due to toxic behaviours.
The good thingsBuilt some amazing friendships here that have lasted a long time
The challengesToxic management and their followers with tall poppy syndrome pointing fingers everywhere else but themselves. Silos are rife here, there is no collegial connection.

I am an experienced House Supervisor in disability support with strong leadership.
The good thingsOne of the things I value most about working with Aruma is the opportunity to support both participants and staff. I enjoy helping participants achieve their goals while working with a dedicated team to provide safe, high-quality, person-centred support. The training and development opportunities have also helped me grow professionally and build my leadership skills.
The challengesManaging complex behaviours and responding appropriately. Staff shortages and filling last-minute shifts. Completing documentation and compliance requirements on time. Coordinating with families, allied health professionals, and support coordinators. Balancing participant care with administrative and leadership responsibilities. Supporting participants through changes in routines or health needs while maintaining quality care.

Money hungry, entitled and profit focused.
The good thingsLeaving the company was the only good thing I have done.
The challengesYou are not important. The moment something happens the management team are the first ones to blame the support workers. Their only concern is making profits and maintaining them. If that means making budget cuts and ignoring requirements in the Enterprise Bargaining they will. You will not be supported. Poor behaviours from clients is excused and their “therapeutic” approach to managing clients does not protect workers and does not set clients up for the future. Safety concerns do not get implemented until something dangerous happens and they are forced to deal with it. Aruma will do everything they can to not pay you what is owed and to only pay you the bare minimum. The team I work with is fantastic. The management team that I am under are so out of touch and completely incapable of relating to the people under them. Management need to listen to what their staff have to say. It is being said for a reason. You could not do an hour of my job. Don't work at Aruma whatever you do.
