What's it like to be a Retail Store Manager?
Retail Store Managers (Kaiwhakahaere Hokohoko) oversee the daily running of retail stores selling goods to the public, from clothing to groceries. They may be involved in a customer-facing tasks, such as serving them and fielding complains, as well as managing their staff, rosters, recruitment, ordering stock, and making sure that workplace safety regulations are being followed. Retail Store Managers typically work on-site at the store during business hours, and may be required to work evenings and weekends, depending on their store’s hours of operation.
Tasks and duties
- Ensure customers are provided with excellent service, stock and restock merchandise, undertake inventory and orders, monitor sales and maintain store cleanliness.
- Recruit, interview, train and supervise new employees, in addition to organising rosters.
- Reconcile sales at the end of the shift or day and deposit monies in the bank or safe.
How to become a Retail Store Manager
Experience working in retail is an asset for a Retail Store Manager.
