What's it like to be an Inventory Controller?
An Inventory Controller is responsible for managing and organising stock levels within a business. They oversee the supply and demand of products, ensuring that goods are in stock and are organised properly, and that stock levels align with business needs. Their duties may include tracking inventory through software systems, forecasting future supply needs, examining levels of supplies and producing reports on inventory levels. Working in various sectors such as retail, manufacturing or distribution centres, Inventory Controllers assist in the supply chain management of an organisation.
Tasks and duties
- Keeping track of the stock in warehouses or other storing facilities and making sure inventories are accurate.
- Handling inbound and outbound stock movements to ensure the necessary quantity is in the right location at a specified time.
- Working closely with sales and supply chain teams to forecast, plan and manage inventory levels.
- Analysing supplier processes to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of inventory.
- Managing and resolving any discrepancies identified in stock takes or inventory records.
- Ensuring the inventory system is updated and accurate.
- Assisting in the development of an inventory management strategy to minimise stock holding and maximise system accuracy.
