Cancer Society Auckland Northland is seeking a passionate, equity‑driven Cancer Prevention & Equity Advisor – Tāmaki Coordinator Lead to help reduce the incidence and impact of cancer across our communities.
This is a pivotal role within our Cancer Prevention & Equity (CPE) team, combining hands‑on health promotion and advocacy with on‑the‑ground coordination leadership for our Tāmaki team.

Cancer Society Auckland Northland works to reduce cancer risk and improve cancer outcomes through prevention, advocacy, research, and support services. Reducing cancer inequities—particularly for Māori and Pasifika communities—is a core priority of our work.
Our prevention approach is guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, kaupapa Māori, public health evidence, and community‑led action. We partner closely with iwi, communities, and the health system to stop cancer before it starts.
About the role
As the Cancer Prevention & Equity Advisor – Tāmaki Coordinator Lead, you will:
Contribute to the design, delivery, and evaluation of equity‑focused cancer prevention initiatives
Support and help lead advocacy and policy campaigns aligned with national and divisional priorities
Build strong partnerships with iwi, Māori and Pasifika providers, community organisations, and public health stakeholders
Coordinate day‑to‑day activity for the Tāmaki CP&E team, supporting local workplan delivery
Provide on‑the‑ground coordination and continuity when the CP&E Manager is not based in Tāmaki
Identify and escalate risks, issues, and resourcing pressures while proposing practical solutions
Apply health promotion theory, equity frameworks, and best practice in all mahi
This role plays a key part in ensuring work is well‑coordinated, connected, and delivered to quality and timeframes.
What we’re looking for
You’ll bring:
A tertiary qualification in health promotion, public health, or a related field
3–5 years’ experience in health promotion, public health, advocacy, or equity‑focused roles
Demonstrated experience coordinating projects, campaigns, or team activity
A strong understanding of health equity, cancer prevention, and social determinants of health
Well‑developed cultural competence, including understanding of tikanga and kaupapa Māori
Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship‑building skills
Confidence supporting a manager through delegated onsite coordination and escalation
Strong planning, organisation, and evaluation skills
A current driver’s licence
Desirable:
Experience in coordination or non‑formal team leadership roles
Experience working across community networks
Policy analysis or strategic advocacy skills
Social media or digital advocacy experience
Te reo Māori (conversational or fluent)
