About the Role
We are looking for a capable and detail-driven Accountant to join our Finance team, reporting to the Commercial Manager. This is more than a traditional accounting role as you will play a key part in supporting strategic decision-making and ensuring financial integrity across a unique, purpose-driven organisation.

In this varied and rewarding role, you will provide high-level financial support across multiple entities, including:
Waikato Diocesan School for Girls
Waikato Board of Diocesan Schools (Proprietor’s Board)
Waikato Diocesan School Foundation
You will partner with leadership and budget holders to deliver meaningful financial insights, while ensuring strong compliance, reporting accuracy, and continuous improvement across the finance function.
Key Accountabilities
Lead month-end reporting, including journals and reconciliations
Prepare annual financial statements
Provide clear financial insights and variance analysis to support decision-making
Partner with budget holders and lead financial review discussions
Manage GST returns, audit, and ensure strong compliance practices
Support budgeting and deliver cashflow forecasting
Identify and implement process and system improvements
To be successful in this position, you will have
A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Proven experience in a similar Accountant role
Strong capability in month-end, budgeting, and forecasting
Experience preparing financial statements in line with NZ IFRS
Solid understanding of GST requirements
Advanced Excel and strong systems skills
Experience working across multiple entities (advantageous)
Familiarity with accounting systems and FACTS student management system (advantageous)
In addition, you will be a proactive, hands-on accounting professional who enjoys working collaboratively and takes pride in delivering accurate, meaningful work. You will have excellent attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities, and the professionalism to operate in a confidential environment
