Associate Director Employment Relations

Location: Manawatū or Wellington

An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen at Massey University for an experienced employment relations professional to shape workplace strategy and guide complex people matters.

This pivotal leadership role sits within the People & Culture team and is responsible for guiding complex employment matters, leading collective bargaining, and strengthening constructive relationships across a large and diverse organisation.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

In this role, you will provide strategic employment relations advice to senior leaders while overseeing complex matters such as investigations, disputes, and grievances. You will build constructive relationships with unions and key stakeholders, shape employment relations frameworks and policies, and lead a specialist ER team to deliver effective and consistent outcomes.

What you'll bring

  • Tertiary qualification in human resources or employment related law
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills
  • Proven ability to advise senior leaders on sensitive and high-risk matters
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to anticipate organisational risk and opportunity
  • Proven success positively managing investigations, disputes, and collective bargaining
  • A minimum of ten years' experience in complex employment relations and NZ employment law
