SENIOR ADVISER (HEALTH & SAFETY)
Senior Adviser - Health and Safety
Role type: Permanent, Full-Time
Location: Christchurch
General Salary Range D: $100,934 to $118,005 depending on skills and experience
About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
Help shape and strengthen health and safety practice across the National Wilding Conifer Control Programme along with other key pest management programmes. You'll support central and regional government partners, enhance safety systems, and guide culture across a diverse programme working to protect Aotearoa's landscapes.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead delivery of programme H&S systems
- Support partners with expert advice and ensure operational best practices are used
- Spot risks and improve safety practice
- Analyse H&S data to identify trends and ensure investigations are carried out properly
- Build capability and positive safety culture
About You - Mōu
You bring sound judgement, strong collaboration skills, and a proactive approach to safety and wellbeing. You're confident navigating complex programme environments and working with a wide range of partners.
You will bring:
- Knowledge of H&S legislation and good practice
- Skilled at engaging others and sharing expertise
- Strong communication and influencing ability
- Ability to analyse data and identify risk trends
- Project or systems-focused mindset
- An understanding of forestry activities would also be beneficial
You must have a current full New Zealand driver licence (not temporary, learner, or restricted) or equivalent full foreign drivers licence, and any endorsements required for the type of driving you'll be doing.
About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū
The National Wilding Conifer Programme team works across New Zealand with central government agencies, councils, landowners, iwi, industry and community organisations to reduce the spread and impact of wilding conifers. The team is collaborative, passionate, and geographically spread, working together to support sustainable, safe delivery of on‑the‑ground wilding conifer control operations that protect our landscapes and biodiversity.
