About the Role

As a Compliance Officer, you will contribute towards compliance and enforcement activities relating to the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act (SERPA) 1990, and the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012. Activities will be carried out in a way that contributes to Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) and the Smokefree Aotearoa Smokefree 2025 Action Plan. We have a full time, permanent opportunity located in Auckland.

Working with various key stakeholders, you will monitor targeted, and evidence based regional compliance activity in the Northern Regional Team. You will also be responsible for monitoring and maintaining nationally consistent and effective systems/processes for regional delivery and reporting of compliance activity including development of national standards of practice.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

About you

As a Compliance Officer, you are able to demonstrate self-awareness of your impact on people and invest in your own leadership practice to continuously grow and improve. You bring with you; previous experience that will help you lead confidently in this role. You are someone with strong problem solving and analytical skills combined with an ability to quickly assimilate new information.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in a regulator/compliance capacity (e.g. Law, Health, Public Administration, Compliance)
  • Experience in regulatory approaches and/or Smokefree and Regulated Products and Sale and Supply of Alcohol legislation
  • Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
  • Experience in an advisory role, applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide advice
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with other Agencies and Public Health teams
  • Clean NZ Drivers Licence
  • Willingness to travel across the region
