Technician – Bridges & Civil Structures
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineering Technician to join our Bridges & Civil Structures team in Napier. This is a great opportunity for a technician or technologist who enjoys hands on technical work, field investigations, and contributing to the delivery of bridge and civil structures projects across a range of clients. You’ll be part of a supportive and experienced team, with opportunities to further develop your technical capability while working on meaningful infrastructure projects that support local communities.
In this role, you’ll support the delivery of bridge and civil structures design and asset management services, working across inspections, investigations, design, and construction observation. You’ll be involved in both office based technical work and site activities, contributing across the full project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the investigation, design, documentation, and construction observation of bridge and civil structures projects
- Undertaking bridge and structures inspections, including field data collection and analysis
- Supporting structural evaluations and analysis, repair prioritisation, and maintenance planning
- Preparing technical reports, asset management documentation, and contract documentation
- Assisting with project scoping, cost estimates, and programming
- Supporting project delivery through accurate reporting, record keeping, and client communication
- Contributing to contract administration and the effective management of safety and operational risks
- Working collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and technical leaders across WSP
About you
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering
- 3+ years’ experience in a related civil or structural discipline
- An interest in bridge and civil structures design, inspections, and asset management
- Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- A collaborative, client focused approach aligned with WSP’s values
- Proactive, practical, and able to use initiative
- Motivated, detail oriented, and keen to grow your career within bridges and civil structures
- A clean, full New Zealand driver’s licence
