Primary Care Radiology Liaison (Northern Region) - Community Referred Radiology

The Opportunity
A new Community Referred Radiology (CRR) programme is being implemented across New Zealand to ensure nationally consistent, high-quality access to imaging directly from primary care. To support this, ProCare is seeking Primary Care Radiology Liaisons (PCRL) to join our the Northern Region CRR Hub.

As a PCRL, you will bridge the interface between Primary Care and Radiology Services, to improve access to diagnostic imaging for GPs, Nurse Practitioners and the population across the Northern Region. This role offers exceptional flexibility and can be performed almost entirely remotely - giving you the freedom to work from home while helping improve the delivery model of diagnosis and care in NZ. You’ll work collaboratively with general practices, district radiology services, radiology networks, and the General Practitioner Radiology Liaison (GPRL) Regional Lead to deliver a sustainable, efficient, and equitable community imaging service.

Key activities include:
  • Triaging and prioritising community radiology referrals against national criteria
  • Providing clinical advice and education to both primary care and radiology teams
  • Building strong relationships and mutual understanding between primary care and radiology specialists
  • Supporting quality improvement through regular audit and review processes
  • Promoting consistent, timely, and patient-centred imaging pathways

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to one of New Zealand's key health reform initiatives, improving early diagnosis and access to care through community-based imaging.

About you
The following skills are required for this role:
  • MBChB or similar medical qualification
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in primary and/or urgent care within the NZ public health system
  • Experience supporting or educating other healthcare providers
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships across clinical and non-clinical teams
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
  • A GP or Urgent Care Fellowship would be advantageous, but is not essential.
