Mō te tūranga | About the role:  

We are seeking a Kaiwhakahaere | Team Leader Registration to join our Te Ohu Rēhitatanga | Registration team.  In this leadership role, you will guide a team of Registration Officers who assess and process applications for teacher registration and practising certificates, ensuring compliance with Council standards, policies, and legislation.  

This is a high-volume environment where you will work to ensure your team meet their targets and receive the appropriate support and advice with regards to registration matters.  

You will have your own workload to process and will be the escalation point to the Registration team and the other teams at the Council to resolve any queries about our policy and processes.  As the team leader, you will also build strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders in the wider education sector.

You are an experienced, approachable leader who enjoys mentoring and developing others. You are comfortable leading challenging conversations and responding to complaints, and you thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.  

To be successful, you will bring:  

  • At least 2 years’ experience leading teams, managing people, and supporting them to achieve targets.   

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a fast-paced customer service environment.  

  • Strong competency of Tikanga, Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and Te Reo Māori.  

  • Demonstrated understanding and/or experience of Pasifika values and cultures is highly regarded and fluency in a Pasifika language is an advantage.  

  • Experience applying sound judgement and providing specialist advice based on policies and legislation.   

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.  

  • A methodical, systematic approach to managing workloads and meeting deadlines.   

  • Strong relationship management skills to foster positive, enduring partnerships.
