Science Facilitator (Fixed Term)
Queenstown | June/July 2026 – December 2027 (18 months)
Liger Academy is seeking a Science Facilitator for a fixed-term position beginning Term 3, 2026 and concluding December 2027.
This role is ideal for an educator who enjoys project-based learning, mentoring students, and bringing science to life through experimentation and inquiry.
About Liger Academy
Liger Academy is a small, innovative secondary school in Queenstown that blends project-based learning, entrepreneurship, and real-world challenges.
Students explore complex problems, collaborate with mentors and community partners, and develop the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
While Liger Academy will close at the end of the 2027 school year, the remaining period offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to students’ learning journeys and support them through their final years at the academy.
The Role in 2026
In 2026 the Science Facilitator will lead and support:
Year 10 and Year 11 Science
Year 12 Biology
The role also includes participation in our Wednesday Kaitiaki programme, supporting student wellbeing, personal development, and mentoring.
The Role in 2027
In 2027 the role transitions to a more flexible learning model where the facilitator will:
Facilitate a Year 13 Science class (Biology or Physics)
Guide students through online science learning pathways
Mentor students undertaking independent science study
Students will access digital science courses while the facilitator provides:
Expert academic guidance
Regular feedback and progress monitoring
Opportunities for hands-on experiments and investigations
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate science learning for Years 10–12 in 2026
Teach Year 13 Biology or Physics in 2027
Support student investigations, experiments, and inquiry learning
Mentor students undertaking independent study
Participate in the Kaitiaki pastoral programme
Collaborate with colleagues on Exploration projects
Laboratory & Safety Responsibilities
To ensure safe and effective science learning environments, the facilitator will:
Prepare equipment, materials, and solutions required for experiments
Ensure safety standards and compliance with Ministry of Education and Health and Safety at Work Act (2015) requirements
Manage chemical storage, labelling, expiry, disposal, and inventory
Supervise students in laboratory and classroom environments
Operate and test laboratory equipment
Carry out basic maintenance, cleaning, and coordinate repairs where required
Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) records for chemicals
Conduct periodic inventory checks
