Are you an experienced project engineer ready to make a real difference in the infrastructure that keeps our community running? Gisborne District Council is looking for a skilled and motivated 3 Waters Infrastructure Project Engineer to join our team and help deliver critical water, wastewater, and stormwater projects across the Tairāwhiti region.

Mo te tūranga | About the position  

You'll take ownership of capital projects from initial scoping right through to construction and handover managing consultants, leading procurement, administering contracts, and keeping stakeholders informed every step of the way. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same, and your work will have a tangible impact on the communities we serve.

Ngā Mahi ngā Takohanga Matua rānei | Duties include:

  • Manage capital projects end to end, from scoping and planning through to construction and handover, ensuring delivery on time and within budget

  • Provide technical engineering advice, assessments and solutions to project managers, consultants and engineering staff

  • Prepare tender documentation, lead procurement processes and administer NZS3910 construction contracts

  • Engage and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including meaningful engagement with mana whenua

  • Champion a culture of health, safety and wellbeing on and off site

  • Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive team environment and commit to ongoing learning and development

Ngā Pūkenga me Ngā Wheako e Hiahia ana | Skills and experience required:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering

  • At least 5 years' experience delivering construction projects

  • Experience as a Project Manager, Project Engineer or Design Engineer

  • Experience as Engineer's Representative under NZS3910 contracts

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills

  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental best practice in construction

  • Experience in the New Zealand three waters sector is highly regarded
