The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners is, a medical college that is the professional body and postgraduate training organisation for doctors wanting to specialise in General Practice and rural hospital medicine, and a membership organisation. Our 80+ operational staff support our College members with an aim to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities across Aotearoa New Zealand.
About the role
Reporting to the Manager, Policy, Advocacy and Insights, this is a delivery-focused role where you’ll help produce high-quality advocacy outputs — submissions, briefings and position statements — often to tight consultation timeframes. What you will be doing:
Prepare submissions, position statements and briefings for Government and the wider health sector
Summarise evidence quickly and accurately and translate it into clear advice
Be proficient in the use of AI tools to support your work (e.g., summarising source material and themes), then apply judgement and validation before publishing
Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori health rights and an equity lens across all outputs
Engage with College stakeholders and represent the College in external meetings as needed
Contribute to planning, prioritisation, and improvements in the delivery of policy, advocacy and insights
Skills & Experience
Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant experience
Solid experience in policy, evaluation or advocacy environments (health sector experience desirable)
Strong analytical thinking and the ability to work through ambiguity to produce usable advice
Excellent writing skills to craft clear, credible submissions that are appropriately referenced, reviewed and validated for external audiences
Confidence with using AI tools to support insights
Working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in the health sector, and how to apply these across policy, advocacy, and insights work
Strong relationship-building skills to bring together input from multiple stakeholders
Good organisation and time management skills — comfortable working to deadlines and shifting priorities

We will be appointing a successful candidate within the role's appointment range of $76,000 - $90,000 (FTE) per annum. The full range is advertised for transparency and awareness.

Our team has over 80 staff members, and our office is in Wellington’s city centre overlooking the beautiful waterfront. We support around 6,000 members (GPs and rural hospital doctors) across 1,000 practices nationwide, ensuring their work is safe and helping them stay informed about important news and opportunities.
