Position Purpose:

The Primary Care Nurse will support WellSouth to coordinate and deliver the School Based Immunisation Programme across the Southern region, ensuring safe, timely, and equitable access to HPV and Boostrix vaccinations for eligible young people. The programme aims to reduce HPV‑related diseases (including cervical cancer) and protect against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. Responsibilities include safe vaccine administration, cold chain management, outreach activities, community engagement, and accurate data management.


What are we looking for:

A Registered Nurse with vaccination authority who can confidently deliver school‑based and outreach immunisation services, maintain clinical safety, and uphold equitable, culturally responsive practice. Experience in Primary Health or Public Health Nursing is required, along with the ability to manage unexpected events, support young people and whānau, and engage effectively with schools and community providers.


About you - To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be a Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Be an Authorised Vaccinator.
  • Hold a full driver’s licence.
  • Ideally hold or be working towards a Postgraduate Nursing qualification.
  • Have 3+ years’ recent Primary Health or Public Health Nursing experience (General Practice or NGO experience desirable).
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Have strong computer literacy and documentation accuracy.
  • Show high levels of professionalism and self‑motivation.
  • Be able to work calmly under pressure and in unexpected situations.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with students, whānau, school staff, and colleagues.
  • Uphold cultural safety and work confidently with Māori and Pacific young people and communities.
