Our Biochemistry Department is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team on a 6-month fixed-term, full-time basis (80 hours per fortnight).
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the effective and efficient performance of our department by working collaboratively with a supportive and professional team. You’ll play an important role in delivering high-quality laboratory services that support exceptional patient care and clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform a wide range of diagnostic and investigative tests within the Biochemistry department, following established protocols and procedures.
Analyse blood and other biological samples accurately and efficiently, ensuring results meet quality standards and client specifications.
Operate, maintain, and assist in troubleshooting analytical instruments and laboratory technologies used in biochemistry testing.
Ensure timely turnaround of results while upholding the highest technical and quality standards.
Participate actively in quality control, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
Maintain precise documentation and records in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Collaborate with scientific and clinical staff to support accurate diagnosis and effective patient care.
Adhere strictly to health and safety protocols to ensure a safe laboratory environment.
Participate in the roster, including evening and weekend shifts.

To be successful in this role you need to have:
The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Sound knowledge of laboratory operations including, safety, quality assurance processes, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience.
Previous experience in a Biochemistry laboratory is preferred, but not essential.
Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
