About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Biochemistry Department is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team on a 6-month fixed-term, full-time basis (80 hours per fortnight).

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the effective and efficient performance of our department by working collaboratively with a supportive and professional team. You’ll play an important role in delivering high-quality laboratory services that support exceptional patient care and clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform a wide range of diagnostic and investigative tests within the Biochemistry department, following established protocols and procedures.

• Analyse blood and other biological samples accurately and efficiently, ensuring results meet quality standards and client specifications.

• Operate, maintain, and assist in troubleshooting analytical instruments and laboratory technologies used in biochemistry testing.

• Ensure timely turnaround of results while upholding the highest technical and quality standards.

• Participate actively in quality control, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives within the department.

• Maintain precise documentation and records in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

• Collaborate with scientific and clinical staff to support accurate diagnosis and effective patient care.

• Adhere strictly to health and safety protocols to ensure a safe laboratory environment.

• Participate in the roster, including evening and weekend shifts.

To be successful in this role you need to have:

• The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.

• A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.

• Sound knowledge of laboratory operations including, safety, quality assurance processes, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience.

• Previous experience in a Biochemistry laboratory is preferred, but not essential.

• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate.

• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
