About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Area Manager to lead our Stevedoring and Log Marshalling operations at the Port of Tauranga. This is a senior management role responsible for the overall operational, financial, and safety performance of one of Qube Ports NZ’s busiest port operations.
Reporting to the North Island Operations General Manager, you will provide strong leadership across complex, high‑risk port environments, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment with Qube’s strategic objectives. This role requires a proven port logistics leader who can balance day‑to‑day operational demands with long‑term planning, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide senior leadership across Tauranga Stevedoring and Log Marshalling operations
- Drive operational, safety, and financial performance in a high‑volume port environment
- Build and maintain strong relationships with port companies, customers, and key stakeholders
- Lead workforce planning, including selecting talent for the operation and developing current staff through training and capability uplift
- Lead and develop leadership teams to deliver consistent, high‑performing outcomes
- Manage budgets, forecasting, and reporting requirements
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align local operations with national strategy
Who we're after:
- 10+ years’ experience in port logistics management, stevedoring, or related industries
- Proven senior leadership experience in complex, safety‑critical environments
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including budget ownership
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships
- Strategic thinker with strong operational execution capability
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision‑making skills
