Health & Safety Trainer

Posted 20d ago

Safety ‘n Action and Axiom Training, New Zealand’s largest providers of workplace safety and driver licensing training, are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Trainer to join our Dunedin team.

This role suits someone who enjoys working with people, has strong real-world safety experience, and is confident delivering practical training that helps workers stay safe on the job.

You’ll work with local companies and individuals across the Dunedin region, delivering hands-on safety training that builds capability and confidence in the workplace. While the local team is small, you’ll be supported by a nationwide organisation with established systems, resources and expertise.

If you’ve previously delivered H&S training — or have the experience and credibility to stand in front of a room and lead practical safety training — we’d like to hear from you.

Who We Are

Safety ‘n Action and Axiom Training have been raising the standard of workplace safety across New Zealand for nearly three decades.  With over 200 courses, from over 21 training sites nationwide and company sites we have trained around 200,000 learners in the last 3 years.  Our focus is simple: help organisations and individuals build the skills that keep workplaces safe.

Your Role

As a Health & Safety Trainer, you’ll be responsible for delivering engaging, practical training that learners can immediately apply in their workplaces.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering training across a range of workplace safety programmes

  • Leading courses in areas such as heights, confined spaces, fire safety, cranes, and MEWP

  • Assessing learners and completing course evaluations and administration

  • Supporting organisations to strengthen their workplace safety capability

  • Maintaining high standards of training delivery and learner engagement

We provide a structured onboarding and induction programme to ensure you have the tools, resources and support to succeed in the role.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone with strong practical safety experience and the confidence to lead training sessions.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Experience delivering Health & Safety training

  • A solid understanding of New Zealand Health & Safety legislation

  • Experience in areas such as working at height, confined space training, MEWP, first aid and fire training

  • A Health & Safety qualification (preferred)

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • NZQA Unit Standard 4098

Backgrounds we often see succeed in this role include construction, manufacturing, trades, emergency services, or military training environments.

What’s in It for You

  • A role where your work directly improves workplace safety

  • A varied role working with different organisations and learners

  • Support from a nationwide training organisation

  • Competitive salary

  • Company vehicle

  • Retail discounts including JB Hi-Fi, Carters, and Mercury
