About the Role:
The ALS Environmental & Occupational division support a range of industrial and occupational hygiene testing services. We have a rare opportunity for a Lead Occupational Hygienist to join our experienced and supportive team.

Based at our office in Penrose, you will play a key role in supporting our clients to protect worker health, manage workplace risks, and promote the physical, psychological and social wellbeing of their people.

This role suits someone who is technically capable, client-focused, and motivated to grow their expertise.

This is a permanent opportunity, Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM with some flex to business needs.

Duties and responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Deliver environmental and occupational hygiene services across core OH competencies in all business sectors including construction, manufacturing (pharma, steel, metal fabrication, production, etc.) and mining/mineral processing.
  • Assist with end-to-end project delivery (inception to completion) under the supervision of the Environmental & Occupational Hygiene Manager.
  • Conduct health risk assessments, develop exposure monitoring strategies, and complete exposure monitoring accordingly, including mould and methamphetamine sampling.
  • Compile and interpret data; prepare, review and present technical reports and findings.
  • Provide practical recommendations to control worker exposure to harmful workplace environmental factors.
  • Provide responsive technical support to clients, keeping them informed and answering queries.
  • Prepare quotes aligned to agreed scopes of work; support client relationships and business development as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation; work within relevant OHS and industry regulations and keep up to date with scientific and legal changes.
  • Confident ability to travel locally and domestically.

Essentials:

  • Tertiary qualification in OHS or a similar science or;
    - OHTA training - W201 Basic Principles in Occupational HygieneBachelor of Science and/or extensive experience from a scientific and/or environmental background is beneficial
  • 5 years practical experience in occupational hygiene processes and measurements is preferred
  • Experience in risk identification and management will be beneficial
  • NZOHS Full Membership level
  • Understanding of relevant NZ Legislation and AS/NZ standards
  • A sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Hold a valid driver's license with no restrictions.
