What's it like to be a Site Supervisor?
A Site Supervisor oversees all operations on a project site, ensuring that work is completed on time, within budget and to the required standards of safety and quality. Key duties often include organising and managing teams of workers, sourcing and managing resources like materials and equipment, conducting safety checks and coordinating with clients or stakeholders. They are commonly found in industries such as construction, civil engineering, building services and facilities management. A Site Supervisor can work for a variety of employers, from large multinational corporations to local contractors.
Tasks and duties
- Overseeing both the logistics and personnel aspects of construction projects, ensuring work is done correctly, on time and within budget.
- Mapping out project plans, scheduling work and assigning tasks to various team members or subcontractors.
- Enforcing safety regulations and incorporating best practices to minimise potential hazards on site.
- Monitoring quality of workmanship and materials used in construction, making sure they adhere to project specifications.
- Conducting regular site inspections and reporting on project status to upper management.
- Resolving on-site issues and conflicts, making quick decisions to ensure minimal project delays.
- Completing necessary paperwork, including permits, compliance documents and safety reports.
