What's it like to be a Policy Manager?
A Policy Manager is a professional who guides and monitors the development of organisational policies and procedures. Their primary responsibilities include researching and analysing the impact of policies, advising on policy changes and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Policy Managers often need to communicate complex ideas and facilitate discussions between different stakeholders. They may work across a variety of sectors including non-profit organisations, private corporations, government agencies and healthcare institutions.
Tasks and duties
- Leading the development and implementation of policy initiatives.
- Analysing existing policies and legislation to identify issues, trends and needed improvements.
- Interacting with stakeholders, policymakers and the public to communicate policy objectives and gain feedback.
- Coordinating with researchers and analysts to understand the impact of various policies.
- Drafting policy papers, briefs and other communications, and presenting them to senior leadership or relevant committees.
- Leading or contributing to policy reviews that examine the effectiveness of existing policies.
- Monitoring and reporting on the implementation and effects of policies, recommending adjustments as required.
