A Marketing Manager’s specific tasks will vary by industry and company, but generally they plan and conduct market research and use these findings in a range of targeted digital and media advertisements and campaigns. Their ultimate goal is to increase a company’s sales and profitability through attracting new customers (and retaining existing ones). Typically, Marketing Managers need to be strong communicators, creative, and capable with finances and budgeting.
Tasks and duties
- Planning, developing and organising marketing campaigns to support business growth objectives.
- Coordinating marketing campaigns involving specialised activities such as artwork, copywriting, media scripting, film production and media placements.
- Delivering campaigns within time and budget constraints.
- Conducting regular data analysis and measuring campaign performance against objectives.
- Presenting reports to clients and stakeholders.
- Using consumer data to predict current and future consumer trends.
- Identifying new growth opportunities through market research.
- Optimising marketing campaigns for highest return on investment.
How to become a Marketing Manager
Marketing Managers typically have a bachelor degree in marketing or a related subject, as well as marketing experience in hands-on roles.

Study a bachelor degree in marketing, business, communications or a similar subject. This usually takes three years of full-time study at university.

Gain work experience. Marketing Manager is a managerial role, and most candidates work their way up to this position after gaining on-the-job experience in sales and other marketing roles, such as Marketing Coordinator.
